NAVPAGE is a program that will dial and send a maximum message of
80 characters to an alpha numeric pager. In order to use this
program you must know the dial-up number of your alpha numeric
pager service. I have supplied the New Jersey/New York Bell-
Atlantic number for convenience. This program was designed to be
the alarm system of a custom network early warning system, however,
many other uses can be found for this program.
REQUIREMENTS
____________
DOS 3.3 or higher
Minimum of 500K free
300 baud modem
INSTALLATION
____________
To install NAVPAGE, simply extract the contents of the NAVPAGE.ZIP
file onto your hard disk, preferably a directory called NAVPAGE.
WHATS NEW
---------
ver 1.01 * corrected bug that caused machine to lock up when
answering non-registration prompt.
ver 1.00 * release of NAVPAGE.
PARAMETERS
__________
/I=###### (Personal Identification Number)
This is a unique number burned into each pager. The service
you leased or purchased your pager from will give you this
number.
/C=# (COM port modem is connected to)
Range: 1 - 4
This parameter specifies the communications port your modem is
connected to. NOTE: the modem MUST be able to connect at 300
baud. This is the pager headquarter equipment restriction, not
a limitation of this software.
/P=###### (Phone number to dial)
This is the phone number of your pager service computer dial-
up number. The communications speed will be limited by your
service to 300 baud.
/M=' ' (Message to send)
The message to be send to your alphanumeric pager. The maximum
message length is 80 characters.
/E=###### (Error bucket number)
Range: 1 - 255
This parameter assigns a page to a timer. This parameter is
used in conjunction with the /D parameter. This feature is
great if used with an early warning system to page you when
network error conditions exist. You should, however,
assign each error a unique number and use that number when
calling NAVPAGE.
/D=###### (Delay between pages [in minutes])
Range: 1 - 64800
Specify the minimum amount of time a page must wait prior to
the last page before being sent. If NAVPAGE is called before
the timer for a specific bucket is reached, the page will be
ignored. This parameter is used with the '/E' parameter.
ERROR LOG
_________
NAVPAGE will log all pages to a log file named NAVPAGE.LOG. This file
contains date and time of pages sent including its error bucket number
if applicable. This file will NOT shrink. You will have to maintain
this file and delete all records you do not need. Perhaps I will
improve upon this in a later release. Any editor should do the trick in
deleting unwanted records.
Sample log record:

EXAMPLES
________
1) Send a message to ID 211999 on COM1:.
NAVPAGE /I=211999 /P=18003287587 /M='please call the office'
2) Send a message to ID=123456 on COM2:.
NAVPAGE /I=123456 /P=18003287587 /M='server is down' /C=2
3) Send a message to ID=100999 on COM1:. This error was given a
bucket number of 22 and another error 22 will not be sent until
30 minutes has gone by.
NAVPAGE /I=100999 /M='buffers low' /P=18003287587 /E=22 /D=30
4) An early warning system will call NAVPAGE when a low disk
condition exists. However, you only want to be paged once a
day. Port used is com1: and you gave this error a number of 1.
Your beeper ID is 200555.
NAVPAGE /I=200555 /M='disk space low' /P=18003287587 /E=1 /D=720
